The life and eventual death of Chris Benoit is one of the darkest stories in sports history.

A respected wrestler, Benoit also suffered from severe brain damage and depression which researchers and autopsies suggest led to the eventual double murder-suicide of his wife, Nancy Benoit and son, Daniel. The fallout of Benoit's heinous crime eventually led to major changes in WWE procedure and developments in neuroscience and sports injuries.

A film centred on Benoit's life and career has been rumoured for quite some time, but it now appears it's finally happening as Green Street director Lexi Alexander has signed on to direct the film. Crossface - in reference to Benoit's well-known submission move, the Crippler Crossface - has no set release date or production schedule, but it is known that the screenplay was written by newcomer Sarah Coulter.

There's been no word on casting and WWE has yet to comment on the story, but it's safe to say this is going to be a controversial film and whether it'll see the light of day remains to be seen.
