The acclaimed director of 'The Witch' and 'The Lighthouse' is back once again. This time, he's bringing us to 10th century Iceland for a Viking epic.

The film stars Alexander Skarsgård as Amleth, a prince set out to avenge his father who was killed when he was a boy. Joining him in a star-studded cast are Anya Taylor-Joy, Ethan Hawke, Nicole Kidman, Willem Dafoe, Ralph Ineson and Björk.

Claes Bang, Murray McArthur, Ian Gerard Whyte, Kate Dickie, Hafpór Júlíus Björnsson also feature.

Filming took place in county Antrim and Donegal in August last year.

Eggers co-wrote 'The Northman' with the Icelandic novelist and poet Sjón. In a recent interview, Eggers talked about the large scale of the film.

"The scale is so huge and there are so many more locations and things that I couldn’t do everything or know every prop myself. That's been a challenge with the new movie."

Eggers also said "We’re designing all these worlds, building these villages. We’re making thousands of costumes and props, training the horses the things they’ll need to do, designing the shots for the films." He continued, "But this movie there is rarely a scene that isn’t on a boat or doesn’t have a lot of extras."

'The Northman' comes to theatres on April 8, 2022. Check out the trailer below.
