Star Wars: Episode VIII has a title – drum roll, please!

Scheduled to be released on December 15th, the latest in the franchise will be called Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

The news was announced via the series' Twitter:

The film will see the return of most of the cast of Episode VII: The Force Awakens, including Carrie Fisher, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Mark Hamill, Dohmnall Gleeson, John Boyega, Lupita Nyong’o and Oscar Isaac.

At the end of The Force Awakens, Ridley’s character Rey had discovered Hamill’s character Luke Skywalker’s whereabouts after he had been missing for many years. The title of The Last Jedi is likely to refer to one of these characters, but which?

Boyega and Isaac will reprise their respective roles as Finn and Poe, who also play roles in Rey’s journey.

Fisher passed away at the end of last year but had completed shooting of her scenes as the iconic General Leia Organa.
