A prequel to the best remake of all time (yeah, I said it!) The Thing is to get underway in March according to Production Weekly, with a young Dutch filmmaker by the name of Matthijs Van Hejningen calling the shots.

The plot will apparently deal with "the initial dredging up out of the ice of the shape-shifting alien life form by researchers at a Norwegian Antarctic facility." Battlestar Galactica scribe Ronald D. Moore co-penned the script with Eric Heisserer, who penned the unreleased Nightmare on Elm Street remake.

The John Carpenter flick showcased the director at his most innovative, while it squeezed more tension out of one film than any horror/science fiction film since has managed with a bunch of sequels. I know Moore has a lot of fans, so here's hoping he does the last film justice.
