The Rock has ended long-running rumours that he was considering a presidential bid.

The superstar was said to be toying with a run as early as 2017, and told journalists last year he had held meetings with people in the politics sphere to explore a potential presidential bid, but has now put that to one side because he "loves being a daddy."

Speaking to CBS Sunday Morning, the former WWE wrestler turned movie star said the idea of him running for president is "off the table".

"I will say this because it requires a B-side to this. I love our country and everyone in it. I also love being a daddy. And that’s the most important thing to me is being a daddy, number one, especially during this time, this critical time in my daughters’ lives.”

The actor said "I know what it was like to be on the road and be so busy that I was absent for a lot of years when my first daughter was born."

"They are growing up in this critical age at this critical time in their life, and that’s what the presidency would do, so my number one priority is my daughters.”

"Sure, CEO sounds great - but the number one thing I wanna be is daddy,” he added.

Johnson told Vanity Fair in 2021 that he was exploring a presidential bid, admitting to Vanity Fair "you know, at the end of the day, I don’t know the first thing about politics."

"I don’t know the first thing about policy, but I care deeply about our country. I care about every fucking American who bleeds red, and that’s all of them."

"There's no delusion here – I may have some decent leadership qualities, but that doesn’t necessarily make me a great presidential candidate. That’s where I am today.”

There is no indication of what party The Rock would run for, with the star endorsing both Republican and Democrat candidates in the past.

He endorsed Joe Biden in the contentious 2020 election, stating "as a political independent and centrist for many years, I've voted for Democrats in the past as well as Republican."

"In this critical election, I believe Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are the best to lead our country and as my first ever presidential endorsement, I proudly endorse them for the presidential office of our United States."

The idea of a former wrestler becoming a politician isn't as far-fetched as people may think.

The Rock's former sparring partner, WWE star Kane, was recently re-elected as mayor of the Tennessee city Knoxville, while Jesse Ventura famously served as Governor of Minnesota for the short-lived Reform Party between 1998 and 2002.

Johnson is on the press circuit for his upcoming superhero film 'Black Adam' which will see the superstar join the DC Cinematic Universe.

'Black Adam' hits Irish cinemas on October 21st.
