As we previously discussed and opined on, Logan is a pretty strong candidate for some Oscar gold this year - and it looks like Fox is taking that prospect pretty seriously.

A report in Deadline today confirms that Logan is now officially in the race for an Oscar, and has already begun distributing For Your Consideration screeners to the voting pool of the Academy Awards. Considering how Logan was one of the best-reviewed films of the year - currently sitting at 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, and we gave it four-and-a-half stars - it makes sense that it's in the running for an Oscar.

Patrick Stewart, by far, looks like a strong contender for Best Supporting Actor and there's every possibility that Hugh Jackman could be in with a Best Actor nomination as well. James Mangold previously directed Angelina Jolie to a Best Supporting Actress win for Girl Interrupted back in 1999, and a Best Actress win for Reese Witherspoon in the Johnny Cash biopic Walk The Line.

Logan isn't the only contender that Fox has in their stable, either. War For The Planet Of The Apes is also expected to make a big push for Oscar glory in the coming weeks and months, not to mention the swathe of films still to be released before the end of the year.

Here's our opinion piece about Logan's potential for Oscars from earlier this year.
