Steven Spielberg’s 'The Post' emerged as the big winner on the night with a nod for Best Film. The movies two leads, Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep, also picked up the Best Actor and Best Actress awards.

There was recognition too for Get Out with an award for Best Cast Ensemble and Best Directorial Debut going to Jordan Peele.

Greta Gerwig won the Best Director award for Lady Bird, starring our own Saoirse Ronan, while Willem Dafoe picked up a Best Supporting Actor nod for Sean Baker’s The Florida Project.

The National Board of Review is a somewhat secretive New York-based organisation which is made up of “film enthusiasts, filmmakers, professionals, and academics”, and while their awards are interesting, they shouldn’t be taken too seriously as a precursor to the Oscars. An NBR Best Film winner hasn’t won a Best Picture at the Oscars since 2008’s Slumdog Millionaire.

You’ll find the entire list of winners here. They also announced their top 10 movies of the year:
