To be fair, 'Hostel' was one of those movies that didn't exactly have a wide audience and wasn't exactly the most well-known of horrors.
Still, the whole hunting-humans-for-sport thing isn't new at all. For example, there's been movies like 'Hard Target' with Jean-Claude Van Damme and John Woo, and there's been 'The Most Dangerous Game' in 1932, and a few remakes and reimaginings based on that.
In short, it's fertile ground and given how the likes of 'The Purge' have managed to do this kind of social horror / action thing, it seems like an obvious choice. The ensemble cast includes 'GLOW' alum Betty Gilpin, Hilary Swank, Emma Roberts, Ike Barinholtz, Glenn Howerton from 'It's Always Sunny...' (which is perfect casting for a creepy rich guy), and 'Blue Ruin' writer / star Macon Blair.
It also looks to be something of a reunion for people who worked on HBO's 'The Leftovers', as showrunner Damon Lindelof and writer Nick Cuse wrote the screenplay whilst episode director Craig Zobel is behind the camera.
'The Hunt' hits Irish cinemas on September 27th.
