The Brendan Gleeson and Don Cheadle starring Irish flick, The Guard, has sold to Sony Pictures at Sundance for near to a million dollars.

According to Darkhorizons.com, the film was sold to Sony Pictures Classics for the seven figure sum, with more money coming from the back end if it does well at the box-office. Early reviews have been very similar to that of In Bruges (whose director Martin McDonagh Executive Produces here for brother helmer Michael), with critics praising the edgy humour and performances - especially that of Gleeson.

Element Pictures are distributing the film in Ireland, so hopefully we'll see a release soon.
