In a lot of ways, Suicide Squad 2 is like a grenade that's been passed from director to director - nobody wants it, it's been passed along by everyone and, eventually, it's going to blow up in someone's face.

As we reported some time ago, Warner Bros. was close to signing Jaume Collet-Serra to take on the film, but it's now been confirmed by Deadline that he's now successfully chucked the ticking grenade that is Suicide Squad 2 on to someone else. Instead, Collet-Serra is heading to the Magic Kingdom for Jungle Cruise, with Dwayne Johnson set to star in the lead.

Previously, Mel Gibson had been approached to take on Suicide Squad 2, after David Ayer declined the project - or most likely had it taken away from him. Deadline's report states that other names on Warners' list include 50/50's Jonathan Levine, Zombieland's Ruben Fleischer and Daniel Espinosa, who most recently directed Life, with Jake Gyllenhaal and Ryan Reynolds.

Whoever takes on Suicide Squad 2, one thing's for certain - they're going to be fighting an uphill battle. Although the first film scored $745 million at the global box office, it received dire reviews with even the director admitting it was a flawed film.
