'X-Men: Dark Phoenix' hits cinemas in less than a week so don't be surprised if more news comes out about the film between now and then.

'Dark Phoenix' marks the culmination of this generation of X-Men. It stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Sophie Turner,  and Jessica Chastain.

McAvoy, who plays Charles Xavier aka Professor X in the series, revealed that the new movie had to alter its ending.

There's a very mild spoiler here so watch out.

Originally, the film's climactic battle sequence was set in outer space. It now takes place on a train.

McAvoy, in an interview with Yahoo UK, said:

"The end changed a hell of a lot. The finale had to change. There was a lot of overlap and parallels with another superhero movie that came out re—a while ago. And we had no idea that we were..."

Fortunately his co-star Fassbender stepped in before he could reveal anymore. He interjected, adding, "They had spies on set and basically stole our ideas!"

Considering what superhero movies could've been in production at the same time as 'Dark Phoenix', the answer is likely 'Captain Marvel'. After all, the big climax of that film is set in space as well.

We have our own interviews with Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and writer-director Simon Kinberg on the way so keep an eye onsite.

'X-Men: Dark Phoenix' hits Irish cinemas on June 5th.
