Ben Affleck's Argo was the big winner at this night's BAFTA awards, scooping Best Director and Best Film at the awards ceremony in London's Royal Opera House. Bet the lads over at Oscars are kicking themselves now...

A host of Hollywood stars including Ben, George Clooney, Samuel L. Jackson, Jennifer Garner, Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Renner, Anne Hathaway, Sally Field. Jessica Chastain and Daniel Day Lewis jetted into London for Britain's answer to the Oscars, and with Stephen Fry doing the honours the night certainly didn't disappoint.

There were a few shocks in store what with Skyfall beating Les Miserables to the gong for Best British Film and Emmanuelle Riva pipping JLaw and Jessica Chastain to the post for Best Actress. No surprises when it came to Best Actor though: Daniel Day Lewis scooped the prize while Christoph Waltz got the nod for Best Supporting Actor.

Anne Hathaway welled up as she thanked Victor Hugo while accepting the award for Best Supporting Actress: She apologised to Eddie Redmayne (whom Sally Field revealed was puking backstage) for not being on hand to hold his hair back.

Quentin Tarantino (the silver penned devil) picked up the BAFTA for Best Original Screenplay while David O. Russell got the nod for Best Adapted Screenplay for Silver Linings Playbook.

And of course, there was an extra special nod for movie making legend Alan Parker, who picked up a lovely BAFTA Fellowship at the end of the evening! Now we're just wondering if Stephen did get his dance with the delectable Jeremy Irvine...
