The 'Thor: Ragnarok' director will also collaborate with Jemaine Clement ('What We Do in the Shadows', 'Flight of the Conchords') on writing the script.

'The Incal' is the highest-selling sci-fi graphic novel series in history. Filmmaker Jodorowsky created the series in the 70's. French artist 'Moebius' created the artwork.

The plot follows John DiFool, a private investigator, who stumbles across and ancient, powerful artifact named The Incal. As DiFool learns more about the power he now holds, he teams up with a ragtag group to save the universe.

Waititi said, "The films and graphic novels of Alejandro Jodorowsky have influenced me and so many others for so long. I was stunned to be given the opportunity to bring his iconic characters to life."

After Jodorowsky watched some of Waititi's work, he was convinced the New Zealander was the right man for the job. "I fully trust Taika’s creativity to give 'The Incal' a stunning take, intimate and at the same time of cosmic proportions".
