Two thirds of the way through a hugely popular trilogy, it's not surprising that many a fan's mind went straight to what would happen with The Hunger Games, trivial though it may seem, given the tragic passing of one of its stars, Philip Seymour Hoffman.

The makers of the third and final installment - Mockingjay (split into two parts) - have released a statement reassuring fans that the third film would indeed still go ahead, despite the devastating loss of one of the trilogy's most enjoyable characters, Plutarch Heavensbee.

As per the filmmakers, Seymour Hoffman had already completed his work for the first of the two finales, however had 9 days of filming to do for the 4th and final part.

The studio's official statement read: "Philip Seymour Hoffman was a singular talent and one of the most gifted actors of our generation... We're very fortunate that he graced our Hunger Games family. Losing him in his prime is a tragedy, and we send our deepest condolences to Philip’s family."

We reflect on Philip Seymour Hoffman's wonderful career in acting right here.
