After months of endless speculation, Star Wars Episode VII FINALLY has a director. Yup, JJ Abrams, the man behind the Star Trek reboot, will apparently be heading to a galaxy far far away.
He certainly kept that one onder wraps didn't he? I mean it was only a few months ago that he was telling the world he'd turned it down. "There were the very early conversations and I quickly said that because of my loyalty to Star Trek, and also just being a fan [of Star Wars], I wouldn't even want to be involved in the next version of those things," he said at the time. "I declined any involvement very early on. I'd rather be in the audience not knowing what was coming, rather than being involved in the minutiae of making them."
Well JJ, I guess the appeal of the Star Wars universe was just too great because Deadline's telling us you're most definitely directing it now. Either that or the paycheck was worth eating your words for.
When news of Episode VII first broke there were mixed reactions from Star Wars fans, including myself: Let's face it, nobody wants a repeat of the Jar Jar Binks incident. But with Abrams behind the camera there's a decent chance that the seventh installment could actually live long and prosper...
