At long last, it looks like we’re going to get the first female to helm a film in the Star Trek franchise.

Yesterday, it was announced at CinemaCon in Las Vegas that Paramount Studio is working on both a fourth instalment in the current Star Trek movie franchise as well as a Star Trek movie directed by Quentin Tarantino (who appeared at the convention himself earlier in the week to discuss his new movie, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, alongside Leonardo Di Caprio).

The fourth movie will see the return of Zachary Quinto as Spock while Chris Hemsworth, who appeared in the 2009 Star Trek movie as Chris Pine’s character’s father, is possibly joining the cast. While plot details as scarce, it would seem that time travel will play some role in the new movie if Captain Kirk Sr. is returning.

S.J. Clarkson has been tapped to direct Star Trek 4. She is best-known for her TV credits and has helmed episodes for big shows including Dexter, Bates Motel, range is the New Black, Jessica Jones, and Marvel’s The Defenders. Paramount has yet to confirm her appointment.
