Despite mostly positive reviews from the critics, Ghostbusters took in less than hoped for $46 million at the US Box Office in it's opening weekend.

However that hasn't stopped Sony execs talking about a sequel to Paul Feig's female led reboot to the 1984 classic.

Sony's Worldwide Distribution Chief Rory Breur told The Wrap that "The ‘Ghostbusters’ world is alive and well,” and that “I expect ‘Ghostbusters’ to become an important brand and franchise,”

“While nothing has been officially announced yet, there’s no doubt in my mind it will happen,”

Ghostbusters' $46 million opening saw it debut in second place behind The Secret Life of Pets. The film is still expected to become the highest grossing horror comedy of all time, overtaking the original's $242.2 million US Box Office gross.
