The BAFTA nominations have just been announced, with Slumdog Millionaire and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button unsurprisingly leading the pack with eleven nominations a piece. With the exception of Changeling getting eight nods, it's then pretty much as you were for the vast majority of the other categories, with The Dark Knight picking up nine also. But you have to admire the gall of the organisers here; not only have they inexplicably nominated In Bruges as Best British Film, but also Mamma f**king Mia. Something tells me they were sucking back on Grandpa's auld cough medicine when that one came up in the brainstorming session. Anyhow, expect Slumdog Millionaire to clean up in most categories, while we'll keep our fingers crossed for the brilliant Brendan Gleeson in the Best Supporting Actor (?) category for In Bruges, but strangely no Colin Farrell despite a recent Golden Globe win. The gongs are handed out on February 8th.
