If only your acting skills were as good as your bridge-burning skills, Shia LaBeouf.
In a wide-ranging interview with Variety, LaBeouf doled out a number of lovely little nuggets about his time in the spotlight, his various drinking problems and the fact that Steven Spielberg is not the director he once was.
Let's dive in, shall we? On the topic of working with Spielberg, LaBeouf was frank about how the man isn't what you'd expect. "You get there, and you realize you’re not meeting the Spielberg you dream of," LaBeouf explained. "You’re meeting a different Spielberg, who is in a different stage in his career. He’s less a director than he is a f**king company."
LaBeouf went on, saying that "Spielberg’s sets are very different... Everything has been so meticulously planned. You got to get this line out in 37 seconds. You do that for five years, you start to feel like not knowing what you’re doing for a living... I don’t like the movies that I made with Spielberg. The only movie that I liked that we made together was Transformers one."
So Spielberg was a meticulous guy who didn't like to waste time or money on set and expected actors to know their business before showing up on set. That's just shocking, that is.
As for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, LaBeouf was equally frank. Simply put, he doesn't consider it a success. "I prepped for a year and a half... (and) then the movie comes out, and it’s your fault. That shit hurt bad."
Yet, the only director LaBeouf had a good word to say about was - you guessed it - Michael Bay. "Mike is an artist... People don’t realize how dope that dude is. He’s got to get a little ballsier with his moves - he’s trying to toe the line and be James Cameron, but James Camerons are dying. I don’t know what he’s chasing, but that version of director is dead. If Mike is to sustain, he’s got to get f**king weird."
Michael Bay's an artist, but Steven Spielberg is a company. Shia LaBeouf, ladies and gentlemen!
