The Aston Martin DB5 that belonged to the one and only Sean Connery is up for auction - with the proceeds going to a philanthropy fund set up in the Scottish actor's name.
The car was owned by the Oscar-winning Scotsman who originated the role of James Bond back in 1962, and the auction is cited as a "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity" for a prospective owner as it was the only car owned by the actor.
The buyer will also get a personal drive from World Championship racer Jackie Stewart, who was a lifelong friend of the 'Untouchables' star.
Connery brought the 1964 car because he wanted to drive it "without the heavy gadgets, but would have kept the ejector seat if he could," his son Jason said.
"Dad used to talk about owning his own DB5, for no other reason than he loved the car, and I think in hindsight it did represent something in his life that was unique and captured a moment in time."
“He did tell me that driving the movie cars, all laden down with the gadgets, especially the machine guns in the front, made the car really front-heavy and turning at slow speed was a Herculean task, so driving without gadgets was a joy."
The star bought the car from a specialist and had it repainted in the traditional James Bold silver-grey.
“Sitting behind the wheel of Sir Sean’s personal DB5 is like stepping into the shoes of the legend himself and for an enthusiast of the legendary actor and film franchise such as myself, nothing compares," said car specialist and family friend Barney Ruprecht.
The Broad Arrow auction will take place in August at the Monterey Jet Centre and is expected to fetch between $1.4 to 1.8 million dollars.
Aston Martin has long been the car of choice for the super spy, with 2021's 'No Time To Die', featuring 3 different models, including the DB5 making a memorable appearance in the pre-title sequence, complete with mounted guns.
