The very sound Sam Worthington will produce and star in Quatermain, a reportedly science fiction take on literary hero Allan Quartermain, according to Darkhorizons.com via Heat Vision.
Quatermain is a character in the 1885 novel, King Solomon's Mines, and a big game hunter who is also a bit of a dab hand at exploration and whatnot. The new version will be "set in a future where humanity has abandoned Earth and Quatermain returns for an adventure on a planetary scale."
While no director is set, the screenplay has apparently been written and is already out to helmers the studio, Dreamworks, are considering. Worthington proved with the box office success of Clash of the Titans that Avatar was no fluke and that he is a genuine draw. He's also been extremely careful picking his roles, and will oversee the choice of director here as well.
