It was announced this week that legendary actor Rita Moreno will join the cast of 'Fast X' where she will play Dominic Torreto's (Vin Diesel) grandmother.

The news broke over Instagram on Tuesday by Diesel, who is also producing the movie.

"It's been my dream forever to work with Rita Moreno," said Diesel. "The fact that she's here playing my grandmother makes my soul smile."

"You know what… I think my old age was waiting for you to invite me. Isn't that nice? And I'm here—and the answer is yes, I'll do it," added Moreno. "And yes, not only do it. I'm tickled. I'm so thrilled. This is going to be such fun!"

The 90-year-old joins the upcoming film's already stacked cast, consisting of Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Jason Momoa, Charlize Theron, Brie Larson, Alan Ritchson, Nathalie Emmanuel, Michael Rooker, Daniela Melchior, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang, Ludacris, Cardi B and Scott Eastwood.

'Fast X' will be the tenth and penultimate instalment of the 'Fast & Furious' franchise, which started in 2001. The film series has gone on to gross over $6 billion at the global box office, becoming one of the most successful movie franchises in history.

Moreno won an Oscar in 1962 for her role as Anita in 'West Side Story'. She recently featured in the new Steven Spielberg adaptation as Valentina. She will also feature in Cartoon Saloon's upcoming Netflix animation 'My Father's Dragon'.

'Fast X' releases in cinemas on April 7, 2023
