Director of The Time Traveler's Wife and Flightplan, Robert Schwentke has been confirmed as the man who helm the effects heavy Ryan Reynolds action flick, R.I.P.D.

According to Deadline.com the German shooter has committed to directing the flick, and production will begin late next summer after Reynolds wraps other committed flicks, The Change Up and Safe House, with Denzel Washington. R.I.P.D centres on a police force of all dead folk; but instead of just stinking up the place and taking turns whipping Hitler, they stop nasty spirits from kicking off. Reynolds will play a recently murdered cop trying to stop the man who clipped him from killing again. It's apparently based on a Dark Horse comic series.

Schwentke is being linked with all sorts of gigs since buzz on action flick, Red, started to build. I wasn't a fan of his two previous efforts, but he may have found his way with Red - either way R.I.P.D sounds like silly fun.
