There are precious few movies from your childhood that, when you look back on them, are still as perfect as the day you first saw them.

'The Princess Bride' is one of them. It has everything. A sweet, moving framing device about an old grandfather - played by Columbo, no less - reading to his sick grandson. It's got pirates, huge rats/rodents of unusual size, a six-fingered count, a swordfighter driven by revenge, and it's got Andre the Giant.

Not only that, Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits did the music for it, so what more can you reasonably ask for from a children's adventure movie? Nothing, precisely. It's perfect as it is. So why remake it, then?

Well, that's the feeling that pretty much everyone had when Variety tweeted a story about Sony Pictures CEO saying some famous people whose names he wouldn't mention wanted to take a crack at it.

Of course, the whole thing couldn't go unanswered - and he even drew the ire of some familiar faces.

Take a look.

Speaking as a website that covers movie news on a daily basis and follows every production or remake happening, we can speak on this and say that we've never seen a more unequivocal rejection of an idea than this one.

There really is no point in remaking 'The Princess Bride' because they got it right the first time. Think about any other classic you can name - 'Gone With The Wind', 'The Wizard of Oz', 'The Shawshank Redemption', 'Jaws', 'The Godfather' - would you remake any of them?

Of course not. So the same goes for 'The Princess Bride'. Nobody wants it. Leave it alone. There are enough remakes in the world.

You can let this one go by, Sony Pictures.
