Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski is developing a project based on the detrimental affect that online role playing games can have on the lives of extreme users. According to Variety, the film is based on an article by Wall Street Journal writer Alexandra Alter, that "focuses on a married man who spends as many as 20 hours a day on a computer, existing through an avatar who is a thriving, musclebound entrepreneur. In reality, he is a diabetic, chain-smoking 53-year-old." These things are becoming more and more popular, with literally millions of people now joining networks and creating entire worlds for themselves online. Sounds like just another excuse to be lazy, eat loads of crap and generally act in a lethargic manner - but in saying that I'm currently reading a book by Denis Leary, so that may be influencing my current state of mind.
