Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski has signed up to direct an adaptation of the video game Bioshock. The game, which has sold over two million copies worldwide, is based in an underwater city where things have gone very wrong. The central character is a pilot who becomes embroiled in a power struggle with the powers that be, and questions the free will he always took for granted. Verbinski told Variety "I think the whole utopia-gone-wrong story that's cleverly unveiled to players is just brimming with cinematic potential" before adding "of all the games I've played, this is one that I felt has a really strong narrative.". Anyone played the game? It any use? He’s a solid director, whose abilities were never really tested with the POTC trilogy; it’ll be good to see him tackle something new on this scale. Gladiator scribe John Logan has been hired to pen the script
