Michael Keaton back in a comic-book movie. Drink that in, folks.

It seems clear that Michael Keaton has now built up enough of a cache that he can pretty much take on any role he fancies and isn't in it anymore for the money. In other words, seeing him get involved with Spider-Man: Homecoming is definitely a good sign as Keaton doesn't just jump into films anymore.

After all, he was in Spotlight and Birdman, two Oscar-winning films and he played a significant role in both and was pretty incredible in both, as well. This time around, Keaton's ditching the black rubber for some kind of jump-suit thing with a leather jacket, as he'll be playing Adrian Toomes - better known as Vulture - and according to Keaton, "..there's a B-story to this guy that’s kind of really interesting and really relevant."

"I would be lying if I said that’s why I took it, but as we talked about it and did, I went, 'Whoa, there’s some layers to this guy.' … This director’s (Jon Watts) is a very bright guy, and he wanted to bring this issue out. A lot of people are going to like him more than they probably want to, would be my guess."

In the comics, Toomes was an electronics engineer who created the flight harness / wing-suit and lost his job when he found out that his business partner had been embezzling money from the company, thus forcing him into a life of crime. It's not yet known if that plays a part in the film, but going by Keaton's comments, it seems like that may be the case.

Spider-man: Homecoming hits Irish cinemas on July 7th.
