In what really is shaping as one of the most intriguing casts for a comic-book movie in quite some time, Peter Sarsgaard has been confirmed as joining Matt Reeves' 'The Batman'.
Sarsgaard is probably known for his performances in 'Jarhead' alongside Jake Gyllenhaal, 'Garden State', 'The Killing' and, more recently, the critically acclaimed 'The Looming Tower' miniseries. So far, the villainous line-up for 'The Batman' includes Paul Dano as Edward Nashton / The Riddler, Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle / Catwoman, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, while rumours persist that Colin Farrell will be playing Oswald Cobblepot / The Penguin.
For Sarsgaard, however, there's a bit of a connection to 'The Batman' closer to home for him than others - through his wife, Maggie Gyllenhaal. One of Maggie Gyllenhaal's best-known roles was in Christopher Nolan's 'The Dark Knight', where she played Rachel Dawes, a Gotham assistant DA who was a love-interest of both Bruce Wayne and Harvey Dent.
Interestingly enough, it hasn't yet been confirmed who Peter Sarsgaard will be playing in 'The Batman'. Going by an Instagram post on Maggie Gylenhaal's profile, it seems to suggest that Sarsgaard will be playing Harvey Dent / Two-Face. Why? Take a look and see for yourself.
That's right - half his hair gone, so what does that tell you? As it stands, Matt Reeves hasn't yet confirmed Sarsgaard's role. In the past when Reeves has tweeted out his casting announcements, they're usually done with an acknowledgement to the role they'll be taking.
This time around, however? Not so. Take a look.

It could well be that we're putting 2 and 2 together to make 5, but given the likelihood that 'The Batman' is going to be a clown car filled with villains without the most obvious clown car occupant in there - Joker - putting some just as recognisable like Harvey Dent seems like a good idea.
'The Batman' arrives in Irish cinemas on June 25th, 2021.
