A third 'Paddington' movie is officially in active development.

The 2014 'Paddington' movie and its 2017 sequel were major critical and commercial successes.

The latter has the rare honour of holding a 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Representatives from Studiocanal told Variety: "We can confirm Studiocanal is working very hard on film 3 with the utmost craft and care — as with film 1 and 2."

It follows an interview from last week on BBC Radio 2's "The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show," during which one of the stars of the film, Hugh Bonneville, said that there was "forward momentum" on the project.

He added that it's "somewhere on the horizon."

Paul King was the writer and director of the first two 'Paddington' movies. He previously said he won't be returning to the helm. However, he is going to be involved in some capacity.

King is currently directing Willy Wonka origins story 'Wonka' for Warner Bros.

Aside from Bonneville, who plays the father of the Brown family, the 'Paddington' films also star Oscar nominated actress Sally Hawkins, who plays his wife.

Ben Whishaw voices the titular beloved bear.

While Nicole Kidman played the antagonist in the first 'Paddington', Hugh Grant was the villain in the follow-up, in a critically lauded performance.

Brendan Gleeson also joined the cast for the sequel.
