It seems the failure of The Dark Knight to pick up a Best Picture nomination at the Oscar's last year has caused quite the kafuffle within the Academy. So much so that they've taken the historic step of expanding the Best Picture nominees from five to ten - something which they hope will expand ratings and generally make the whole ceremony more exciting. Last year they tried to Jazz things up by having a genuine movie star host, in the form of Hugh Jackman, and although ratings were up, the decision makers behind the scenes felt a significant change was still needed to keep folk interested in the whole thing. This basically means that some summer films, which are often ignored because voters have simply forgotten about them, will be given a fair chance. Early shout? Public Enemies, which is easily the best film of the summer so far, should be nominated, while Star Trek also has an outside chance.
