Although there's been female Bond villains down through the years - such as Rosa Klebb in 'From Russia With Love' - the vast majority of villains have been white, middle-aged stage actors with some kind of physical impediment.
It makes sense, given how they're able to make grandiose speeches that verge on the ridiculous, but given how it's 2019, maybe it's time for a serious woman Bond villain? The perfect candidate for this has to be, without a shadow of a doubt, Olivia Colman.
Fortuntely, Colman seems keen on the idea and, in a recent interview with EW, revealed that she's even tried to ask for a Bond villain role. The discussion came up when discussing Phoebe Waller-Bridge's 'Fleabag', and how her role is that of a villain.
"I will be eternally grateful to Phoebe, because she said, What sort of things do you want to say? And I went, could you write me someone who’s a total [spells out a four-letter expletive]. So she made up this person for me. Yeah. I always wanted to play the baddie and she’s written a really good one," Colman said.
The still-untitled 25th Bond movie definitely has one of the most tumultuous productions in recent history for the franchise, with Danny Boyle exiting early in pre-production and being replaced by Cary Fukunaga. Meanwhile, Daniel Craig led the world on a will he / won't he on whether or not he was signing up for the new movie.
And, of course, on top of all that, we don't even know what it's called yet. 'Bond 25' hits Irish cinemas on April 3rd, 2020.
