Although Logan was the final film for Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, it's not the last time we'll see mutants or the X-Men together.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix has begun filming, whilst The New Mutants is looking like it'll kick off its own potential franchise. In an interview with Variety, Fox CEO Stacey Snider was asked about their upcoming slate of movies - particularly in the wake of Logan, Deadpool and the so-so X-Men: Apocalypse.
Naturally, the question was raised about Wolverine being recast and a typical non-answer was given, but one interesting point that was brought up was how The New Mutants will play out in a deeply saturated film marketplace. "If we’re going to make a superhero movie, we have to ask ourselves: “What’s our version? What’s a Fox Marvel film? When you look at films like Deadpool or Logan or the upcoming New Mutants, you’ll see they have their own personality."
As Snider describes it, the film is "a haunted-house movie with a bunch of hormonal teenagers," all of whom happen to have superpowers. The film boasts a cast that includes Game of Throens alum Maisie Williams, Split's Anya Taylor-Joy, Stranger Things' Charlie Heaton and 13 Reasons Why's Henry Zaga, and if this description - The Shining meets The Breakfast Club - is anything to go by, it's going to be really something.
Josh Boone, who previously directed The Fault In Our Stars, posted on Instagram that filming is due to end this week, so expect some footage pretty soon.
The New Mutants is slated for an April 2018 release here in Ireland.
