CinemaCon is currently taking place in Las Vegas.

The convention sees some of the biggest names in the film game have gather to ply their wares and generate a bit of buzz about their upcoming projects to cinema and movie theatre owners from around the world.

One of them is director Christopher Nolan, whose new film 'Oppenheimer' tells the story of the man hailed as 'the father of the atomic bomb', J. Robert Oppenheimer.

In the film, the infamous physicist will be portrayed by our own Cillian Murphy, and following the trailer's release a few months ago, more footage was introduced to audiences at CinemaCon to huge applause - although unfortunately, it has not been released online yet.

Reports from CinemaCon detail scenes from the film that showed Oppenheimer and his team working on creating the bomb via the Manhattan Project, but also jumps forward to an era where Russia had developed its own atomic weaponry, which led to accusations of espionage amongst the American team.

Nolan said: "Like it or not, J. Robert Oppenheimer is the most important person who ever lived. He made the world that we live in, for better or for worse. His story has to be seen to be believed and I am certainly hopeful audiences will come to your theatres to see it on the biggest screens possible."

The footage presented at CinemaCon also documented a moment where the fate of humanity literally hung in the balance - when Oppenheimer is aware that pressing the button on the atomic bomb test might trigger a catastrophic reaction - but does it, anyway.

"In learning about that story," said Nolan, "I wanted to be there in that room with them and see what that must have been like. I wanted to take the audience there. To do so, I’ve assembled the most incredible cast and the finest technicians."

The film is released in cinemas in July.
