Names are now being mooted for the Dirty Dancing remake... which really didn't take very long.

Firstly, the beacon of journalistic integrity that is The Sun are saying that dancer, and Cheryl Cole's former, eh, whatever, Derek Hough is pursuing the part. But, somewhat more aptly (and likely) the names of Glee star Matthew Morrison, Dominic Cooper and Chase Crawford (resident brooder on Gossip Girl, apparently) are being considered for the Patrick Swayze role of Johnny Castle. As for Jennifer Grey's part of Baby, look no further than (the most likely) Lea Michele, while Miley Cyrus and Demi Lavato are also being considered. The guy should be a little older, so Morrison would make sense; while Cooper is a good actor who younger ladies might respond well to. As for the female lead, Michele would be the most like Grey in terms of looks, while a tween idol like Cyrus or Lavato would just alienate the core audience - who would come out in abundance if the film was done well.

Kenny Ortega is directing the remake, having previously worked on the original as a choreographer, and directed all three High School Musical films.
