There seems to be a growing trend in Hollywood, possibly started by Kiefer Sutherland, where movie stars are moving more towards TV, as news today breaks that Josh Lucas will headline a serialised version of The Firm for NBC.
Other movie actors such as Patrick Wilson, Ethan Hawke and our very own Colin O'Donoghue (the talented star of The Rite) have recently headlined pilots, while Steve Carrell moved back and forth for years with The Office and movie stardom. Tim Allen (Last Man Standing), James Van Der Beek (Apartment 23), Christina Applegate (will co-star with the very funny Will Arnett in Up All Night) and Sarah Michelle Gellar (Ringer) have also moved back to television, with all of their respective shows being given the green light to go to series. Zooey Deschanel was a complete surprise inclusion when her comedy, The New Girl was picked up, and early screenings to advertisers have apparently gone well.
One show that has tested through the roof is that of comedian Whitney Cummings' series, Whitney, which NBC are apparently very excited about. We won't see a lot of these shows until Autumn at the earliest, but we sure hear how they're doing regardless.
