Kick Ass may not have made the kind of money that many thought it would, but its director Matthew Vaughn is still hot property. The Layer Cake and Stardust helmer is now reportedly in negotiations with Fox to direct the X-Men reboot, X-Men: First Class, after a scheduling conflict caused Bryan Singer to leave the project as director.
Vaughn was attached to direct the third X-Men film, The Last Stand, but pulled out six weeks before production was to begin. He was replaced by Brett Ratner, who delivered a mediocre film in difficult circumstances. Negotiations with Vaughn had begun last week and then fallen through, which caused Fox to start interviewing other possible helmers; but the talented shooter is now apparently back on board with a deal reportedly imminent.
As far as I'm concerned Matthew Vaughn is three-for-three, which all of his films cracking productions that entertained in different ways. Him tackling a huge franchise, with the budget to back it up, is a mouth-watering prospect.
