Matthew Vaughn is firmly in demand as a director after doing an excellent job making X-Men: First Class, under very difficult circumstances. He was still editing the film until a couple of weeks before release - having rewritten the script post haste when he came on board and replaced Bryan Singer.
Now, according to Collider by way of The Heat Vision Blog, Vaughn has purchased the rights to a couple of very cool sounding comic books, with the idea to turn both of them into films. Both projects come from the brain of Mark Millar (he penned the ace Kick Ass); the first is Secret Service, which is having its plot kept under wraps. The second is Superior, a tale of a young boy with multiple sclerosis who dreams of superheroes; when he is given the chance of becoming one himself, he learns there is a cost. It's not clear if Vaughn will tackle either of these projects next, or dive into a much mooted sequel to either Kick Ass or X-Men. The same source is saying that the British helmer is considering "returning to his routes." Another Layer Cake? I could definitely live with that.
Whatever Vaughn chooses to direct I'm looking forward to it. He's made four genuinely excellent films as a helmer so far.
