Although it doesn't yet have a title or even a plot synopsis, 'The Matrix 4' is due to begin production next month in San Francisco with a background extras casting call revealing some details.

HNEntertainment.co has it that a call for background extras for something called 'Project Ice Cream' that is actually the working title for 'The Matrix 4'. It's not yet known specifically who'll be taking what role, but it is known that only a handful of the original cast are returning.

Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss and Jada Pinkett-Smith are all set to return as Neo, Trinity and Niobe respectively, however Hugo Weaving and Laurence Fishburne won't be back as Smith and Morpheus. Rumours suggest that 'Watchmen' alum Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will be playing a younger version of Morpheus, however there's been no confirmation on that front.

Meanwhile, 'Mindhunter' star Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris, 'Iron Fist' alum Jessica Henwick, and 'Sense8' stars Max Riemelt and Toby Onwumere have all been lined up for unspecified roles. Our guess? Neil Patrick Harris and Jonathan Groff are going to be playing Agents, because come on, it's not that hard to imagine either of them being menacing in suits and sunglasses.

'The Matrix 4' is scheduled for release on May 21st, 2021.
