Marvel's Avengers Assemble has smashed box-office records around the world after it opened around the world this passing weekend.

The film took in $178 million, breaking records in the UK, Mexico and Brazil - amongst others. It is officially the biggest ever opening for a superhero flick, and doesn’t actually launch in America until this week. Reviews have been almost universally positive, with Joss Whedon's second feature bagging some of the best notices of the series so far - definitely since Iron Man anyway. It is expected to open with a mammoth $150 million in America this weekend.

The film is in Irish cinemas now, and already garnering great word of mouth from punters here too.
