2023 was a big one for Martin Scorsese fans, as the legendary filmmaker unveiled his latest epic 'Killers of the Flower Moon'.

However, Scorsese's next film won't involve multiple bathroom breaks or shifting around uncomfortably in your cinema seat for over three hours - the director says that it'll clock in closer to 80 minutes.

Scorsese has previously spoken about his next project, a screenplay about the life of Jesus, which is based on a book by Shūsaku Endō called 'A Life of Jesus'. It is the second book of Endō’s that he has adapted, following 2016's 'Silence'.

Endo's 1973 book is described as "A simple and powerful retelling of the life of Christ, as seen through the eyes of a Japanese novelist."

Scorsese co-wrote the screenplay with critic and filmmaker Kent Jones, and he told the Los Angeles Times that it was now completed and that he plans to shoot it this year.

"I’m trying to find a new way to make it more accessible and take away the negative onus of what has been associated with organised religion," he said.

The 81-year-old director is showing no signs of slowing down; the Jesus film is one of several he is attached to direct. Others include an adaptation of David Grann's book 'The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny and Murder', as well as a biopic of US Presdent Theodore Roosevelt.
