Mark Ruffalo is now the actor being heavily mooted to be taking over Hulking duties from Ed Norton in the new Avengers movie, according to the folks at Deadline.com.

As we reported a few days ago, Norton and Marvel parted ways on the project far from amicably, with a somewhat passive aggressive statement from Marvel pissing off Norton's agent no end. Norton retorted with grace, wishing the franchise well, and Marvel then moved to quell fanboy uproar by, reportedly, replacing the former green giant with another widely respected actor.

I really like both actors, and Marvel are being smart here; they know Ruffalo is respected and one of the few actors of the same age bracket that would be considered as good as Norton. How big a role The Hulk has in The Avengers is anyone's guess right now; but the pressure is certainly on Joss Whedon to deliver, and I have no doubt he will.
