Never Let Me Go and One Hour Photo director Mark Romanek is being pursued by Disney to tackle a new version of Cinderella, reports Deadline Hollywood.
Writer of The Devil Wears Prada,Aline Brosh McKenna apparently sold a pitch to Disney a while back, and the studio are pushing forward aggressively. With the two Snow White films in production, they're obviously thinking at least one of those will hit and cinema goers will then get a taste for a retro tale with a modern twist and want more. Romanek is a superb director, but far from consistant - he's only helmed three films in his entire career and two in the last couple of decades. His music videos (Johnny Cash: Hurt, Jay Z: 99 Problems) are some of the most seminal and stylistically invigorating ever produced, while Never Let Me Go was criminally underrated.
Romanek has not signed up yet, but if he does this will be one to circle in your diary.
