With Fury Road nominated for 10 Oscars (and if there's any justice in this world it'll win Best Director at the very least), it's safe to say 2016 had gotten off to a good start for George Miller.

Well it's just gotten that bit better for the Mad Max creator as he has just been named Jury President for the 69th Cannes Film Festival taking place in May.

Organisers commented that "Throughout his career, George Miller has constantly experimented with a variety of genres, brilliantly reconciling mass audience expectations and the highest artistic standards,"

Miller has also responded with huge enthusiasm "What an unmitigated delight. To be there in the middle of this storied festival at the unveiling of cinematic treasures from all over the planet. To spend time in passionate discourse with fellow members of the jury. Such an honour. I'll be there with bells on."

Previous Jury Presidents have included The Coen Bros., Quentin Tarantino, Jane Campion, Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg. Miller will be the first ever Australian to preside over the event.
