Despite continually facing the wrath of the geek masses online, G.I. Joe director Stephen Sommers is one of the nicest chaps I've ever had the pleasure of interviewing. He's made some bad films in his time, but I still think the first Mummy and Deep Rising are a lot of fun. And the director, who once managed bands in Ireland, may be changing genres.
He looks to be returning somewhat to his roots, with the news via Production Weekly that he's interested in adapting and directing the Dean Koontz novel, Odd Thomas. The story centres on a chef in a small Californian town who see's dead people. Apparently a lot of them, including Elvis. I know a few folks who love Koontz work, but can't say I've ever read one of his books.
With Sommers attached, if he made it a priority, it could happen pretty fast. But last I heard Paramount were all systems go on a G.I. Joe sequel, so this could be a while off yet.
