Johnny Depp is in talks to star in Transcendence. This marks the directorial debut from Oscar winning cinematographer Wally Pfister. However Depp will only sign on provided that the script is right.

Transcendence revolves around a man who creates a computer that then develops malevolent awareness. Depp's character will be sucked into the computer. Random! The film has been likened to Inception meets 2001: Space Odyssey which let's face it can only be a good thing. It's high time we got to see Depp step away from his quirky Burtonesque roles.

Pfister who sparked controversy recently when he called The Avengers an 'appaling film', won an Academy award for his work on Inception and has collaborated with Christopher Nolan on the Batman trilogy and The Prestige. This will be his first project as director but he also has Christopher Nolan on board as executive producer. Speaking about working with Depp Pfister said 'I'm thrilled and feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Johnny, He is a creative and intelligent artist whom I feel will bring great depth to the character and the overall narrative.'

Pfister also has Noomi Rapace in mind for the female lead with James McAvoy, Christoph Waltz and Toby Maguire potentially lined up for the other supporting roles. Production is set to start early next year.
