That's right, folks - Johnny Depp is producing a biopic about Michael Jackson, told from the perspective of his bejewelled glove.
Really, does nobody smell burnt toast in here? It's everywhere. Anyway, the upcoming movie will be based on the play 'For the Love of a Glove: An Unauthorised Musical Fable About the Life of Michael Jackson, As Told By His Glove', written by Julien Nitzberg. The play itself is set to debut in Los Angeles next month, but Johnny Depp is already set to work on producing the movie.
Nitzberg told Page Six that the idea originally came about when he was approached by a major TV studio to take on Jackson's life, but couldn't agree with them on how to handle the allegations of child sexual abuse against Jackson. "I said, how’s this? Everything MJ has been accused of has actually been caused by his glove, which is actually an alien from outer space (and) feeds on virgin boy blood. They laughed and said, can you do the normal version?"
Nitzberg ultimately settled for a musical theatre version of the same story, which Depp is now producing. Apropos of nothing, Depp recently settled with his latest lawsuit with his former lawyers of a fee dispute. This arose out of another lawsuit that Depp had brought against his previous lawyers. Not only that, Depp is set to go to trial in a case against his ex-wife Amber Heard, who he claims defamed in a Washington Post op-ed published last year.
But yeah, producing a biopic about Michael Jackson's glove being an alien. Sure, that's one way to take your mind off lawsuits.
