Star Trek helmer JJ Abrams, Walk the Line director James Mangold, Glee creator Ryan Murphy and musical "specialist" Rob Marshall, are just some of the filmmakers who've either had a meeting or expressed interest in helming the film adaptation of hit stage musical Wicked, according to the folks at Deadline, via Darkhorizons.com.

The musical, which originated on good auld Broadway, has grossed over $2 billion worldwide, when various tours are taken in to account. After the global success of Mamma Mia, musicals are still considered big business, and obvious Oscar contenders.

Last year's horribly received Nine, evidently, hasn’t dampened studio appetite.
