A video featuring Jessica Chastain refusing a fan an autograph has gone viral on Tik Tok in recent days.

However, it turns out that there was a good reason for the actress to deny her signature.

Chastain is currently appearing in the Broadway revival of 'A Doll's House', and after the show was meeting and greeting fans. When one of them presented her with a copy of Taylor Jenkins Reid's novel 'The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo' to sign, she says "I can’t sign that, just because I’m not doing it."

Reid's 2017 novel - which tells the story of a fictional movie star and the young journalist who is ghostwriting her memoir - is being adapted into a movie by Netflix, and there has been a long-running campaign for Chastain to play one of the main characters, Celia St. James.

However, Chastain later took to Twitter to clarify her reason for not signing the novel, and it has nothing to do with the quality of the script, she says.

Netflix announced in March 2022 that it was adapting 'The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo', but thus far, details have been scant. However, many fans of the novel have pinpointed the likes of Ana de Armas for the main role - as like Evelyn Hugo, she is of Cuban-American descent. Selena Gomez and Camila Cabello have also been rumoured.

Now that Chastain has said she's not doing the film, however, a niche strand of Twitter have gone into mourning...
