If there's one thing that Hollywood can't get enough of, it's taking relatively obscure 80's and 90's cartoons and action figures and making films out of them. The latest addition to this trend is Jem. If you've never heard of it, it's on Netflix right now. Go watch it and marvel at the size of her hair and that catchy intro.

The live-action remake is being directed by Jon M. Chu, who previously directed GI Joe: Retaliation (meh) and Justin Bieber: Never Say Never (JESUS CHRIST NO). The director and the remake's producers took to YouTube last week and announced the film and a little something else as well. They're hosting an open-call for bands, musicians, singers and anything else and want "fans" - because apparently Jem has fans - to post their entries on Tumblr, Facebook, YouTube and more.

Initial thoughts? This needs to stop right now. We could go on a wild and long-winded rant about creativity is drying up in Hollywood and how they'll literally remake anything, but this just seems like somebody pulled Jem off a shelf and said, "This looks good, remake this." We're not holding out a lotta hope for this one, basically.

Here's the pitch video from the filmmakers below.
