Slither writer/director James Gunn's latest helming effort, the fun sounding Super, premiered some footage at Comic Con in San Deigo last week; it is still being talked about this week - always a great sign. The independently financed production packed out one of the biggest halls, and set about garnering some good buzz for itself by showcasing a few select scenes.
The flick centres on Rainn Wilson's frustrated husband who turns vigilante after his wife becomes embroiled in drugs then leaves him for Kevin Bacon's bastard bad guy. He makes up the decidedly unheroic Crimson Bolt, and gets himself a sidekick, Boltie, played by the gorgeous/brilliant Ellen Page. He then sets about taking out his anger on members of the public who piss him off - he cracks a guy in the head with a wrench for skipping him in a queue; who hasn't wanted to do that!?
Gunn is one of the funniest writers on the internet; his blogs are some of the few things that make me laugh out loud on a regular basis. Take into account the criminally underrated Slither, and the fact that he wrote the best horror remake of all time, Dawn of the Dead, and you should be onboard with this already. Have a gander at Jamesgunn.com for more info - really looking forward to seeing some footage from this one. Hopefully a distributor is found for this side of the pond pronto.
